Nike Senior Applied Analytics Manager, Sustainability in Beaverton, Oregon

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We’re looking for a Senior Applied Analytics Manager, Sustainability with a demonstrable ability to lead and/or work on multi-functional teams and provide project management support. You have a deep understanding of applied statistics, and experience in the valuation and definition of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and how to align with business goals.

You have strategic problem-solving skills, along with excellent written and oral communication skills. As the Senior Applied Analytics Manager, Sustainability you’ll be at the heart of the Global Sustainability Data & Analytics Business Insights team with specific focus on Product and Corporate perspectives.

WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON?

As the Senior Applied Analytics Manager, Sustainability you will build and implement innovative and effective data and analytics solutions by driving multi-functional projects that use advanced analytic approaches in order to advise Nike’s strategy. You will bring deep technical expertise and understanding of life cycle assessment (LCA) and environmental impact assessment to various business functions including Innovation, Product Creation, Supply Chain, and the Global Sustainability Analytics team, providing data and insights to help product developers, innovators, and the broader Nike business partners make decisions to meet Nike’s ambitious sustainability targets.

In this capacity, you will help develop product sustainability metrics, and identify data needed to support the measurement of progress. This will include leading to define the key sustainability attributes or criteria for product (i.e., what makes a product “sustainable”?) that is supported by data in our systems and ensure that metrics are presented in appropriate context by defining and managing insights, visualizations, report outs, and methodology. One of your core roles will be explaining and applying LCA-related environmental impacts (e.g., Higg MSI) to materials and product, describing the main drivers of the environmental footprint, and providing recommendations to reduce impact in product and the corporate space.

You will also support the development of data and systems to measure progress of internal and external sustainability goals including:

  • Ensure teams meet product level targets, track against product classification (Portfolio level) to align towards Nike, Inc's 2030 science based carbon targets.

  • Field apparel and footwear product and materials data requests and prioritize resourcing, based on carbon reduction potential

  • Facilitate partner education to empower product and material level decision making through quarterly presentations.

  • Engage and align functional partners and sustainability team members, re: priorities, MTZ, life-cycle data capture needs (Sustainable Product, Responsible Supply Chain, Innovation)

  • Ensure new data is transitioned in to existing tools (Air Table, Portfolio analysis, dashboards)

WHO WILL YOU WORK WITH?

You will work independently and with key strategic partners to take initiative to identify, explore and solve problems. You will work with key partners to understand requirements and improve opportunities to drive knowledge into action. You will partner with Nike’s technical and legal teams to identify issues and craft and improve consumer data infrastructure.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING?

  • Bachelor’s (or Graduate-preferred) degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Business, Environmental Sciences, Sustainability, or other relevant areas with understanding of supply chain and manufacturing sector – particularly in product development

  • 6-8 years professional experience in sustainability or environmental reporting/strategy

  • Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) knowledge and/or sustainability impact assessment experience

  • Carbon accounting experience and ability to translate raw data (e.g., energy, waste, materials) into sustainability metrics (e.g., CO2eq emissions)

  • Demonstrated ability to think critically; strong problem-solving skills and analytical approach

  • Change agent; ability to adapt and be flexible. Ability to lead multiple projects with opposing deadlines

  • Able to influence and communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with team members and business partners

  • Ability to make the sophisticated simple for a diverse audience

  • Ability to seamlessly collaborate with engineering partners and build multi-functional alignment

  • Experience leading and influencing others

  • Motivated to seek information needed to fill data gaps by forging relationships, doing research, and tapping into internal and external databases

  • Demonstrable ability to sift through data, identify critical information, analyze, and develop solution options

  • Hands-on experience working with real-world advanced analytics challenges and managing multiple projects and partners in a fast paced, multifaceted and matrixed team and business environment

  • Experience in communication of environmental claims (e.g., Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and ISO standards)

  • Strong Excel skills

  • Bonus: materials and product specific knowledge in the footwear and apparel sector
