Nike Senior Manager, Footwear Research Innovation in Beaverton, Oregon

The Nike Sport Research Lab (NSRL) is a multidisciplinary team of researchers and innovators who lead with science to make athletes* measurably better. We deliver novel insights and innovative capabilities to drive the future of Nike products and services. We employ scientific methods to uncover new knowledge and apply new concepts to the product design process in conjunction with multiple Innovation and Product Development teams across Nike.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

As our Senior Manager, Footwear Research Innovation, you will help lead the Footwear Research Team and will directly manage our rank of Lead Footwear Researchers. We are looking for an experienced Researcher/Innovator with a complete understanding of both the research and product development processes, with an affinity for people managing and supporting Technical Experts.

WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON

In this role, you will:

  • Work closely with the Footwear Research Team’s Senior Director, Director, and Manager to together lead all aspects of Footwear Research in the NSRL, including aspects such as portfolio management and delivering results to business partners

  • Directly manage our rank of Lead Researchers, the Technical Experts responsible for creating/inventing novel research capabilities in the NSRL

  • Be a dynamic problem solver instantly attending to any productivity issues identified by Lead Researchers, including stepping in to cover active research when needed

  • Regularly assess team and individual strengths and identify opportunities for training and development

  • Be a team manager committed to providing direct reports clear descriptions of roles and responsibilities and working to enhance their engagement

WHAT YOU BRING

  • B.Sc, M.Sc. or PhD. in Biomechanics, or related field including Engineering, Kinesiology, Human Factors, or Ergonomics

  • Possess a thorough understanding of anatomy, biomechanical principles, experimental design and statistical procedures

  • Demonstrate an understanding of sport performance & injury mechanisms

  • Experience using research to directly impact consumer products and/or product creation preferred

  • Advanced knowledge and experience with tools used to collect biomechanical data (e.g. motion capture, force plates, pressure insoles, etc.)

  • Experience running a focused research program is a plus

  • Knowledge of footwear and the product creation processes is a plus

  • Ability to run multiple projects simultaneously

  • Good communication and people skills

  • Experience working with human test subjects

  • Ability to travel up to 10%
